SPRINGFIELD - Add another Republican to the ever-expanding field of lieutenant governor candidates running in 2010.

State Rep. Tom Killion, R-168, of Middletown, officially made his announcement during a fundraiser Thursday at the Springfield Country Club, where he was able to garner about $60,000 for the cause.

"We just came off a great election," Killion told more than 200 supporters, noting important gains for Republicans in November at the local and state levels.

"The time is right for the Republican Party," he said. "We had some tough years, but now we're on track and that's why I want to help the next governor - and I think I can, especially being from the Southeast - win the governor's mansion back."

Killion, who is running on a platform of fiscal responsibility, job creation and government transparency, said he is throwing his weight behind Republican Attorney General Tom Corbett to take that mansion.

Killion, a former chairman of Delaware County Council and former district director for Congressman Curt Weldon, had been considering a run for lieutenant governor since August.

He launched a Web site, www.killionvictory.com, and formed a state committee in September to explore his candidacy based on positive feedback he had received from party leaders, and state and local elected officials. He said he has also been traveling the state and had visited about 20 counties so far.

Killion laid the blame for seven straight years of missed budget deadlines squarely at the feet of current Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell and said the next governor is going to have to do a better job of working with the Legislature to get bills passed.

Delaware County, Pa. state representative Tom Killion has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the GOP nod for lieutenant governor next year.

Killion, a six year veteran of the state house and former Delaware County Council chairman, will take his quest to the state party convention in February:

"If I do receive the endorsement, then I will run for lieutenant governor and not run for my state house seat."

Madden: "But if you don't get the endorsement?"

"I will not run against the organization."

He's behind attorney general Tom Corbett's bid to succeed Democrat Ed Rendell, who can't run for a third term. Corbett's only announced primary opponent is suburban congressman Jim Gerlach.

Promising fiscal responsibility and government transparency, state Representative Tom Killion (R-Delaware) formally joined the crowded GOP field for Lieutenant Governor Thursday night.

Speaking at the Springfield Country Club, Killion became the latest of many southeast Republicans hitching their wagons to the party front-runner's gubernatorial aspirations.

"I want to work with Attorney General Tom Corbett to put Pennsylvania back on the path to success," Killion said in a statement later.

"As Lieutenant Governor, one of my top priorities will be job creation and the need to make Pennsylvania more business friendly," Killion added. "We need to put in place Pennsylvania tax and regulatory policies that enables Pennsylvania small businesses to compete nationally and globally. In talking with many small business owners, it is evident that we have many state policies that are hindering rather than spurring job creation. We need to address this problem and find new ways to encourage companies to create jobs."
